The Renewable Energy Performance Platform ( REPP) has allocated a US$ 3.2 million loan to Kalahari GeoEnergy Limited, to finance three new explorartory wells as part of building Zambia’s first commercial geothermal power plant. Kalahari GeoEnergy chief executive officer, Peter Vivian- Neal says ground breaking plans to build a 15 Mega Watts (MW) geothermal plant in Zambia were on track with the loan approval which would facilaite pre-feasibility resource definition. Mr Vivian-Neal said although geothermal power generation in Africa was currently focussed on the Great Rift Vally in Kenya and Ethopia, exploration suggested that the KafueTrough, a Permian, in Zambia’s Southern Province, was also suitable for the technology.
